Not Speaking Chinese 4

In Dali we decided to have lunch at a traditional Bai restaurant and try traditional Bai fish stew. The Bai are the minority culture predominant in Dali. They are the descendants of great warriors who maintained their own kingdom in this part of the world for about 500 years. We had spend the morning in the farmer’s market (look for photos a few days out) buying things using finger gestures and smiling at the ancient Bai farmers. We checked out the restaurants that had fish swimming outside and beautiful arrays of fresh veggies displayed. At these places you pick your vegetables out of what they have available. We didn’t know what half the greens were and tried to gesture to the server to give us a selection. We got a really great broccoli. The fish stew was peppers with about four or five kinds of wild mushrooms. And the ever present egg dish was eggs with four kinds of edible flowers.
