Kunming – Hair Today, Goon Tomorrow
Kunming is the capital of Yunnan Province. It’s a big town but tons of construction going on. It’s greatest claim to fame in our view is its airport which opened last July. A thoroughly wonderful airport, so well planned and designed one wonders why it’s in china and not in the US somewhere. Beautiful design – arriving from outside it looks like a peacock with spread tail. Departures leave from one level with lots of shopping and other good things; arrivals run right into baggage claim. Excellent in every way.
The city is under construction in every way. We arrived at around 6:00 pm and left the following morning at 5:30 am. Fair night’s sleep and got no sense of the town except digging and building. We’re going back through there in about 10 days. Same craziness. Arrive early in the morning. Rush out with our young guide Lodge to see the Stone Forest, then rush back to fly out in the afternoon. Tough travel days.
